Who says electric cars are for wusses? This Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-cell prototype cranks up its neck-snapping torque with four electric motors — two on each axle. Hold onto your lunch, because its 526hp is about to rock your world from 0 to 60 in about the amount of time it takes for you to begin comprehending the word fahrvergnügen, or about four seconds.

Don’t be thinking about practicality here — although it has energy-saving LED headlights, this sucker’s array of lithium polymer batteries cranks out an industry-leading 480 kilowatts, so it’s going to be awfully thirsty with your household’s electrical system.

It’s an unpriced prototype so far, but Mercedes says this spectacular electro-rocket might hit the road by 2013.

Just check out those gullwing doors and its way-cool instrument panel in the gallery.
